Colin Powell: First Black US Secretary Of State Dies Of Covid Complications

Colin Powell, the first black secretary of state and military commander in the United States, died of coronavirus complications.

According to iexclusive News Nigeria, the diplomat served in various Republican administrations, notably as the 65th Secretary of State under President George W. Bush.

Powell’s family acknowledged his death on Monday morning in a Facebook post, CNN said.

THE POWELL FAMILY WROTE ON FACEBOOK: “GENERAL COLIN L. POWELL, FORMER US SECRETARY OF STATE AND CHAIRMAN OF THE JOINT CHIEFS OF STAFF, PASSED AWAY THIS MORNING DUE TO COMPLICATIONS FROM COVID 19.”

Powell had been completely vaccinated against Covid, according to the family, who thanked medical professionals “for their kind treatment.”

The military leader was mentioned as a possible presidential candidate in 1996, but he declined to run.

When Powell was sworn in as Secretary of State in 2001, he became the highest-ranking black public official at the time.

In the final weeks of the 2008 election, Powell threw his support behind Barack Obama and the Democratic presidential campaign.
