Fire Update: 25 Cars Destroyed, 13 Injured As Fuel Tanker Explodes In Lagos

Thursday night, a fuel tanker exploded at Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, beside the Sheraton Hotels and Towers in Ikeja, injuring at least 13 people.

Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, Acting Zonal Coordinator, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) South West Zonal Office, confirmed the situation to newsmen in Ikeja on Friday, according to NAN.

According to Farinloye, the explosion, which was caused by a leak while the LPG tanker was in motion, damaged roughly 25 automobiles.

“The fire spread to the Ogun State Property Investment Company (OPIC) Plaza, which includes various commercial establishments, including a Chinese restaurant, in addition to the Sheraton Hotels.

“The fire was put out thanks to the combined efforts of five fire trucks from the Lagos State Fire Service and two trucks from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency Response Unit.

“The early search and rescue efforts indicated that 13 people had suffered burns of varying degrees. “There are nine males and four girls among them,” Farinloye said.

According to him, the wounded were treated for first aid at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH).

“As of today, preliminary assessment of vehicles damaged indicates that approximately 25 have been destroyed,” he continued.
