Governor Willie Obiano Is On The EFCC’s Watch List

Willie Obiano, the incumbent Governor of Anambra State, has been placed on a watchlist by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) ahead of the turnover of power in the state.

Iexclusive News Nigeria reports that This was stated in a letter to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) Comptroller General dated November 15, 2021.

The EFCC has asked immigration to put Governor Obiano on a watchlist and notify it if he travels out of the country through any of the country’s international airports or other points of entrance and exit.

The reason for the governor’s inclusion on the watchlist is still unknown. According to Channels Television, the move indicates that the agency has been quietly probing the governor and may have information that he plans to flee after handing over office to his successor, Professor Charles Soludo, on March 16, 2022.

While in office, Nigerian governors are immune from criminal prosecution.
