Hyundai, Kia India Caught In Twitter Storm

Following a tweet from a Hyundai Pakistan dealer expressing support for Pakistan’s Kashmir agenda, a social media firestorm ensued.

The tweet in issue, sent in support of Pakistan’s ‘Kashmir Solidarity Day,’ asked for “remembrance of those struggling for independence in Kashmir.”

A Kia Pakistan dealer made a similar comment on Twitter.

This heinous act has sparked a response in India, with people asking for a boycott of Korean goods on social media using various hashtags.

In a statement, Hyundai India stated that it has been devoted to the Indian market for over 25 years.

“For more than 25 years, Hyundai Motor India has been devoted to the Indian market, and we stand strongly for our strong concept of honoring nationalism,” it stated.

However, many activists, leaders, and Twitter users are pushing on the company to apologize.

“The unwanted social media post referencing Hyundai Motor India is upsetting our unrivaled devotion and service to this beautiful country,” the business added.

“We have a zero-tolerance policy regarding insensitive communication and we firmly reject any such stance,” the business stated, reiterating that India is the Hyundai brand’s second home.

“As part of our commitment to India, we will continue our efforts toward the welfare of the nation as well as its residents,” Hyundai Motor India added.

What Many Indians Want Hyundai To Do

Many activists and Twitter users, however, want the firm to apologize.

Hyundai Motor India is the country’s second-largest vehicle manufacturer, behind Maruti Suzuki India.
It presently sells 12 models on the home market, including the Creta and Venue.

In December of last year, the carmaker announced intentions to invest around Rs 40 billion in approximately six electric vehicles in India by 2028.

Over the next few years, the business intends to deliver a mix of models from its present portfolio as well as entirely new vehicles built on its global platform ‘E-GMP.’

Hyundai Motor Company was established in 1967 and presently employs over 120,000 people across 200 countries.
