If The Super Eagles Win The AFCON, Otedola Promises Them N102 Million
Femi Otedola, a billionaire businessman, has given the Super Eagles $250,000 in naira (N102,895,000) if they win the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon in 2021.
The Eagles would also earn N49,389,600 ($120,000) from the Coalition Against COVID-19 for the six goals they scored in the ongoing continental showpiece’s group stage.
CACOVID, a private-sector-led platform designed to aid the government in battling Coronavirus in the country, commended the team’s performance at the AFCON and pledged to reward the squad with $20,000 in naira for each goal scored in the group stage.
The Eagles finished the group stage with six goals and $120,000 in prize money.
According to Godwin Emefiele, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, who represented CACOVID during a visit to the team’s camp in Cameroon, the team’s strong group stage performance persuaded CACOVID to enhance the amount for each goal scored in the round of 16 to $50,000.
“I brought a message from the CACOVID with me.” CACOVID is a private-sector company coalition that was formed to combat COVID-19 in Nigeria, and they have been pleased with the team’s performance,” Emefiele stated in a video released by the Eagles media department on Thursday.
“I gave a message from CACOVID at the meeting I had with the captain (Ahmed Musa) and the coach (Austin Eguavoen), and the message is that for every goal scored, the team will receive the naira equal of $20,000, so far, you have earned the naira equivalent of $120,000.”
“We held another CACOVID meeting because everyone is so ecstatic with all you’ve done so far that CACOVID has requested me to up the ante.”
“Starting in the round of 16, for every goal scored, you will receive a naira equal of $50,000 as a team.”
“Also, CACOVID member Femi Otedola has asked me to inform you that if you lift the trophy, he has a naira equivalent of $250,000 in the bank for you.” This is only the beginning, and if you win your round of 16 games, I can assure you that another promise will be made,” Emefiele stated.
