IGP Orders Probe On Abba Kyari Over ‘Fraud Scandal’
The charges against Abba Kyari, a Deputy Commissioner of Police, have been reviewed by the Inspector-General of Police.
iexclusive News Nigeria reports that Kyari has been accused of being bribed by Abbas Ramon, better known as Hushpuppi, a suspected wealthy fraudster, although he has rejected the charge.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FIB) had also requested that Nigerian authorities seek down Kyari in connection with a claim that the officer got money from Hushpuppi in exchange for assisting in the arrest of his accomplice.
In a brief statement made available to newsmen in Abuja, police spokesman Frank Mba said the Inspector-General of Police has ordered an internal investigation of the accusations.
The statement read, ”Sequel to the receipt of allegation and indictment processes from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) against one of the personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, DCP Abba Kyari, the Inspector General of Police IGP Usman Alkali Baba psc (+), NPM, FDCa has ordered an internal review of the allegations.
”The Nigeria Police Force confirms its dedication to the pursuit of justice and the improvement of its professional relationship with the FBI and other foreign partners.
” Members of the public will be kept informed of any new developments in this case.”
