Joyciline Jepkosgei Upsets Brigid Kosgei To Win London Marathon Title

Iexclusive News Nigeria reports that Joyciline Jepkosgei won her first London Marathon title after outrunning Kenyan compatriot and world record holder Brigid Kosgei in a courageous performance.

The 27 year old, who won the New York Marathon in 2019, around 22 miles, made the crucial move.

Despite a brief rally by Kosgei, Jepkosgei triumphed in 2 hours 17 minutes and 42 seconds.

The first Briton to arrive was Charlotte Purdue, who was controversially left out of the Tokyo 2020 selection process.

Purdue finished 10th in a personal best time of 2:23.26,  just a tenth of a second off second-placed Mara Yamauchi on the British all-time list but well within qualifying requirements for next year’s World Championships in Oregon.

Kosgei, who had won Olympic silver in Tokyo only 57 days before, finished fourth.
