Kaduna Protests

(iexclusivenews) – In a decisive move, the Kaduna State Government has imposed a 24-hour curfew on the metropolitan areas of Kaduna and Zaria.

This action, announced on Monday by Samuel Aruwan, the Commissioner for Internal Security, follows a thorough review of the escalating security situation in the state.

Escalation of Kaduna Protests

Kaduna is among the states experiencing violent outbreaks amid nationwide protests.

The unrest, which began on Monday, has tragically resulted in fatalities in several states, including Kaduna, Kano, and Borno.

Amnesty International has reported at least 13 deaths, primarily attributed to police actions, although these figures are contested by the police.

Commissioner Aruwan highlighted that the protests have been hijacked by criminal elements, leading to widespread looting and destruction of both private and public properties.

There is sufficient evidence to clearly indicate that the ongoing protest has been hijacked by criminal elements,” Aruwan stated.

Protesters are calling for significant economic and political reforms, including the reversal of controversial government policies such as the removal of petrol subsidies.

These policies, implemented by the Bola Tinubu administration, have exacerbated Nigeria’s worst cost-of-living crisis in a generation.
