BREAKING: Ke-Ke Operators Protest In Lagos, See Why
Many commercial tricycle operators are currently protesting the alleged killing of one of them by a Meran Police Station officer in the Abule-Egba area of Lagos State.
iexclusive News Nigeria reports that Thursday morning, the operators took to the streets, blocking all entry and exit routes to Meran, a community in Abule-Egba, to protest the recent killings and extortion by the police.
Some claim a police officer stabbed an operator with a dagger, while others claim he was shot at by the officer, who then abandoned him on the side of the road to die.
The incident happened on Thursday morning along Command road, Meran, Abule-Egba.
Tensions are high because the tricycle operators are planning to retaliate by attacking the police station.
Adekunle Ajisebutu, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the protest via WhatsApp and said the state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, had dispatched policemen to the area to quell the situation.
