Iexclusive News Nigeria reports that the trial of Nigerian musician Afeez Adeshina Fashola, also known as Naira Marley, for alleged fraud has been postponed for three months.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission arrested the musician in 2019 for alleged internet fraud.

Justice Nicholas Oweibo of a Federal High Court in Lagos delayed the alleged internet fraud trial to October 5 (85 days) on Monday, July 12, 2021.

At the resumption of proceedings, the EFCC’s attorney, Bilkisu Buhari, informed the judge that the second prosecution witness, Anosike, would be cross-examined.

She requested that the court ask the witness to continue the hearing.

However, the defence counsel Akinwale Kola-Taiwo,who has been standing in for Naira Marley prayed the court for a short date for the continuation of trial on the grounds that “the matter is for mention today and not continuation as disclosed by the prosecution.”

Justice Oweibo granted his request and delayed the case till October 5, 6, and 7 to continue the trial.

The lengthy adjournment is due to the court’s annual vacation, which runs from July 26 to September 17. (53 days).
