NEWS FLASH: How Imo Assembly Was Subjected To Sporadic Shootings

On Thursday, members of the Imo House of Assembly engaged in a skirmish, which resulted in intermittent gunshots.

iexclusive News Nigeria reports that the Speaker, Paul Emeziem (APC-Onuimo), announced the suspension of six MPs during the plenary for suspected unparliamentary behavior, stating that the decision was made during the executive session.

“Some members have been behaving in an unparliamentary manner, exposing the house to mockery.

We thoroughly investigated this topic in the house executive session and determined that peace and order must continue to reign.

As a result, the executive session has suggested that the members who have participated in different misconduct.

“This move is consistent with ensuring that the image of the house remains as it should be while providing a functional environment and the synergy that we are obligated to give to guarantee that all arms of government operate together,” he explained.

Kennedy Ibeh (APC-Obowo), Philip Ejiiogu (PDP-Owerri North), and Uche Ogbuagu are the suspended members (APC- Ikeduru).

Dominic Ezerioha (APC-Oru West), Anyadike Nwosu (PDP-Ezinihitte Mbaise), and Onyemaechi Njoku are also candidates (APC- Ihitte Uboma).

Mr Emeziem also declared that the office of Chief Whip would be transferred from Dr Arthur Egwim (APC- Ideato North) to Obinna Okwarra (APC- Nkwerre).

He also announced the dissolution of all House standing committees.

The suspended members, on the other hand, opposed to the suspension, calling it unlawful and undemocratic.

They insisted on continuing to attend plenary.

As a result, the plenary turned raucous as one of the suspended MPs, Onyemaechi Njoku, attempted to attack the speaker in protest.

As a result, there were random gunshots while the speaker was hurried away by his security team.

Mr Njoku, a former member of the Ethics, Privileges, and Information Committee, stated that their alleged misbehavior was never brought to the committee’s attention.
