1. President Muhammadu Buhari has asked world leaders to consider debt cancellation for developing countries. The president made the appeal in his speech at the 76th Session of the UN General Assembly.

2. There was a protest and counter-protest yesterday at the headquarters of the United Nations as President Muhammadu Buhari addressed the UN General Assembly. While one was organized by the Yoruba Nation and Biafra agitators, the other was held by a One Nation group believed to be in support of the Nigerian president.

3. The Federal Government yesterday, stopped students in Senior Secondary School one and two from participating in external West African Senior School Certificate Examination, WASSCE; the National Examination Council, NECO; and National Business and Technical Examinations Board, NABTEB. The development was contained in a circular issued to principals of federal unity schools by the Federal Ministry of Education.

4. The Imo State Police Command on Friday, confirmed the arrest of a family of four in Umuduruihiako Umueze ll in Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of the state for allegedly conspiring and beating their youngest brother, Chukwuebuka Osundu to death. The Commissioner of Police, Imo State, CP Hussaini Rabiu, in a statement on Friday said the command’s operatives with the support of the community were able to arrest two suspects, Lambert Osundu and Racheal Osundu.

5. A former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi, has said the Nigerian economy is about to collapse. Speaking at the closing ceremony of the Kaduna Investment Summit, tagged KadInvest 6.0, Sanusi said aside from the fact that Nigeria is having difficulties in oil production, the product is now being rejected in the global market.

6. Abia State governor, Okezie Ikpeazu has directed the state Commissioner of Police, Mrs. Janet Agbede, to investigate allegations of rape leveled against some personnel of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Aba. Disclosing this to newsmen in Umuahia, the Commissioner for Information, Chief John Okiyi Kalu, said Ikpeazu further directed the police authorities to ensure the prosecution of officers who are engaged in harassing law-abiding citizens to serve as a deterrent to others.

7. A Yaba Chief Magistrate Court, has remanded a dismissed Police Officer, Sergeant Samuel Philips in prison custody for the alleged murder of a teenager. Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Adeola Adedayo remanded the 30-year-old dismissed officer, pending legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution, DPP.
