1. As the level of insecurity continues to rise across the country, President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday, ordered security agencies to shoot anyone carrying an AK-47 rifle. His spokesman, Garba Shehu, made the announcement in an interview with the BBC Hausa.

 

2. The Nigerian pastor who the Boko Haram insurgents scheduled for execution yesterday, Wednesday, if the government failed to intervene, Pastor Bulus Yakuru, has regained freedom. He was released on Wednesday evening.

 

3. The Amalgamated Union of Foodstuff and Cattle Dealers of Nigeria (AUFCDN) yesterday, resolved to end the blockade of supplies to the south. The leadership of the union made the announcement shortly after a meeting with the Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello.

 

4. As fear of COVID-19 death heightens, over 2.3 million Nigerians have registered for vaccination barely 24 hours after the arrival of four million doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines. The figure was released yesterday by the Executive Director, National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Dr. Faisal Shuaib.

 

5. The Federal Government has approved the establishment of SIM swap centres by Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) across all states and local government areas (LGAs) in the country. This was contained in a statement jointly signed by the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) and National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).

 

6. The Indigenous People of Biafra’s (IPOB) has vowed never to hand over the Eastern Security Network (ESN) to the governors. Spokesperson for IPOB, Emma Powerful started this in a statement in Owerri, yesterday.

 

7. The House of Representatives yesterday, resolved to probe the NNPC over alleged missing 5.2 million barrels of crude oil, supposedly allocated to refineries under the Direct Sales Direct Purchase (DSDP) scheme. The decision was made during the Wednesday plenary.

 

8. The Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, has convened a meeting with commissioners for health in the 36 states as part of efforts to ensure effective sharing and distribution of COVID-19 vaccine. The meeting is expected to be held in Abuja on Thursday (today).

 

9. The Nigerian Army has declared 12 officers and 86 soldiers missing in the wake of last week’s Boko Haram attacks on two local government areas of Borno State. The announcement was made in a signal dated March 1, 2021 from Operation Lafiya Dole Headquarters in Maiduguri.

 

10. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, has announced 464 fresh cases of COVID-19 in 20 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. The new figures bring the total number of confirmed cases in the country so far to 156,963.
