Lagos State Fire Service Finally Puts Out Oando Tank Farm Fire
iexclusive News Nigeria reports that the Oando Tank Farm Fire which started on Thursday, November 5, was finally put out on Saturday November 7 after over 43hours of firefighting by Lagos State fire service and other agencies.
Mrs Margaret Adeseye, the acting head , Lagos State fire and rescue service in a statement on Saturday maintained that no life was lost in the fire outbreak.
She said that the Tank 2 storage at the farm had over 7.5million litres Petrol in it when it was gutted by fire.
Mrs Adeseye said that concerted efforts among various stakeholders including Lagos State Fire & Rescue Service, Lagos State Emergency Management Authority, Federal Fire Service, Nigerian Emergency Management Authority, Nigerian Ports Authority, Julius Berger, United Bank for Africa and major Oil players Fire Departments was responsible for the won battle against the inferno.
Others stakeholders at the fire scene include the Nigerian Police and Military given its proximity to the Defence Military Intelligence, Tego Barracks to mention just a few.
The Fire Service boss said, “Various operational Firefighting tactics were deployed from starvation to cooling, smouldering and damping of pocket of Fires to ensure that the Fire was contained to the tank it emanated from and prevented from spreading to adjoining Tanks and Liquefied Petroleum Gas storage/refilling plant”.
The Acting Director stated that investigation is ongoing in line with International best practices to establish source of the fire incident.
