Peter Obi, LP Unleash Secret Weapon As PEPC Admits Results From 7 States

The Labour Party (LP) and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, have submitted some presidential election results from seven states to the court to support their claim against the victory of President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

iexclusivenews reports that the party and its candidate are challenging the outcome of the February 25 election. In which Tinubu was declared the winner with 8,794,726 votes.

Obi came third in the race with 6,101,533 votes, behind former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who got 6,984,520 votes.

However, iexclusivenews Nigeria reports that on Friday, the court sitting in Abuja admitted some certified true copies of INEC election results from various local government areas (LGAs) in Rivers, Niger, Adamawa, Oyo, Bayelsa, Edo and Lagos states tendered by the LP.

The party argued that their votes were under-counted in these states and that they have more evidence to present before the court.

Evidence From Rivers And Kogi States

Lead counsel to Obi informed the court that he had a schedule of more evidence which they desired to render before the court.

He continued with evidence (election results) from Rivers and Kogi states, presenting certified true copies of INEC election results from six LGAs in Rivers as evidence.

The LGAs are:

– Abua/Odual

– Ahoada East

– Ahoada West

– Andoni

– Asari-Toru

Evidence From Niger, Adamawa, Oyo, Bayelsa And Edo States

The petitioner also presented additional certified true copies of election results from Bida LGA of Niger and 21 LGAs in Adamawa.

Objections From The Respondents

Counsels to the first, second and third respondents objected to the admissibility of the evidence tendered by the LP.

The first respondent is President Bola Tinubu of the APC, the second respondent is the APC, and the third respondent is the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

They argued that the documents were not relevant to the petition and that they were not certified by the appropriate authority.

However, the court admitted the documents as evidence, while awaiting the arguments of the respondents who are opposed to the admissibility of the documents.

Next Hearing Date

The court adjourned the hearing to Monday, June 5, 2023, for continuation of the presentation of evidence by the LP and its candidate.

Obi and his party’s National Chairman, Julius Abure, were present in court for Friday’s hearing.

They expressed confidence that they would prove their case and reclaim their mandate from Tinubu and the APC.
