Pilot Rescued As Bandits Shoot Down Military Jet

On Sunday, gunmen shot down a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Alpha Jet aircraft.

iexclusive News Nigeria reports that although there have been rumors of a military aircraft collapsing, officials have rejected the tale.

However, the NAF’s spokesman, Edward Gabkwet, claimed in a statement on Monday that the aircraft was targeted while returning from an air interdiction operation between the Zamfara and Kaduna states.

He said, however, that the pilots and all other passengers were rescued, adding that the aircraft’s courageous pilot, Flight Lieutenant Abayomi Dairo, safely evacuated.

According to him, “using his survival instincts, the pilot evaded the bandits’ heavy ground fire and took shelter in neighboring villages until nightfall.”
