Police Commission Queries FBI Evidence Against Abba Kyari
The Nigeria Police Service Commission has announced the formation of an internal panel to investigate the documented evidence supplied by the FBI against suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police Abba Kyari.
iexclusive News Nigeria reports that according to a statement from the police regulatory office, the new panel would be chaired by the Director, Department of Police Discipline at the commission, Barrister Tijani Mohammed.
The panel was inaugurated on Thursday by the commission’s Secretary, Abubakar Ismaila, according to the announcement.
The new investigation panel follows one established by Inspector General of Police Usman Baba to look into Mr Kyari’s indictment by the FBI for computer fraud together with his now-arrested ally Raymon “Hushpuppi” Abbas.
Despite the controversy surrounding its report, the IGP panel headed by DIG Joseph Egbunike in command of the Force Intelligence Bureau has yet to publicly announce its conclusions.
Several alleged transgressions against Mr Kyari were disclosed by this internet news outlet, including the N8 million bribe he reportedly took from Hushpuppi to jail a co-fraudster.
Kyari, the suspended deputy police commissioner, has disputed the charge, claiming that he was a debt collector.
