The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Thursday, 19th March and Friday, 20th March 2026, as official public holidays to mark Eid-ul-Fitr 2026—the celebration signifying the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria.
The declaration confirms a two-day public holiday for Nigerian workers, businesses, and government institutions. Eid-ul-Fitr marks the conclusion of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting, prayer, and reflection observed by millions of Muslims across Nigeria and the world.
Minister Tunji-Ojo extended warm congratulations to the Muslim faithful on the successful completion of Ramadan, urging Muslims to sustain the core values emphasized during the holy month—including love, generosity, peace, tolerance, and sacrifice.
A Call for National Unity and Responsible Celebrations
The Minister also called on all Nigerians, regardless of faith, to use the festive period to pray for the continued peace, unity, and prosperity of Nigeria. Citizens are encouraged to celebrate responsibly and extend acts of kindness to the less privileged in society.
The Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to fostering national unity and peaceful coexistence among all Nigerians.
