With the announcement of 395 new members, the Academy’s invitation list for the 2021 class is apparently the shortest.

Iexclusive News Nigeria gives reports that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced its new members invitation list on Thursday, July 1, 2021, which includes three Nigerian filmmakers: Mo Abudu, Ramsey Nouah, and Andrew Dosunmu.

While Mo Abudu was chosen as a Producer, Ramsey Nouah and Kayode Dosunmu were chosen as Actors and Directors, respectively.

The recently disclosed list revealed a significant reduction, which is remarkable given that the list had reached as high as 928 people in recent years.

The Academy noted in a statement that the resized list was made to prioritize support and growth for members.

“To enable steady future growth and to ensure the necessary infrastructure, staff resources and environment to support all Academy members, the number invited to membership was limited to roughly half that of recent years,” the statement read.

This year’s members include notable Hollywood figures such as Janet Jackson, Robert Pattinson, Kenya Barris, Hugh Bonneville, Laverne Cox, and Issa Rae, as well as 89 previous Oscar nominations and 25 winners. The list is made up of 46 percent women, 39 percent underrepresented ethnic/racial communities, and 53 percent internationals from 49 nations.
