iexclusive News Nigeria reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) commenced the Lagos by-election at exactly 8 am on Saturday, December 5, amidst tight security.

The Lagos by-election took place across five local government areas (LGAs): Somolu, Kosofe, Ikorodu, Epe and Ibeju-Lekki; and eleven local council development areas LCDA’s with the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Nigeria’s main opposition party, Babatunde Gbadamosi and Tokunbo Abiru of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nigeria’s ruling party, as the main contenders.

The Lagos by-election is taking place in Lagos East senatorial district to replace the vacant seat created due to Senator Adebayo Osinowo’s death in June 2020.

Lagos East Senatorial District, has 1, 978 polling units, 71 wards, and 1,343,448 registered voters with Kosofe II State Constituency having 337 polling units spread across six wards with a total of 280,363 registered voters.
