Sheikh Gumi: Prophet Muhammad Was Insulted While Alive, Yet He Killed Nobody

Sheikh Gumi, Kaduna based renowned Islamic cleric, has stated that Prophet Muhammad (SAW). Was at several points during his lifetime insulted by non-Muslims. Yet he refused to attack or even kill persons who assassinated his character.

iexclusivenews reports that Sheikh Ahmed Gumi made this known while conducting a religious teaching class in his Kaduna Juma’at mosque.

This online news outlet understands that in a video tape collected and translated by PRNigeria. The Kaduna-based cleric stated that the prophet’s failure to avenge the insults hurled at him by non-Muslims while he was alive was due to his fear of being labeled a killer.

He said this in response to the lynching of a female Christian student at Sokoto’s Shehu Shagari College of Education for reportedly making insulting remarks about Prophet Muhammad.

Instead than killing individuals over minor concerns, he believes that the best way for Muslims to express their love for Prophet Muhammad (SAW) is to follow his Islamic teachings and obey him completely.

According to him, both Muslims and Christians in Nigeria have decided to coexist peacefully, hence there are no religious laws in place in the country, which is a secular state.

“Hence, anyone who kills a non-Muslim who they have agreed to live peacefully with, will not smell the fragrance of Paradise for 40 years,” he said.

Mr Gumi, while emphasizing that no one in Islam has the authority to make laws, urged his fellow Islamic clerics to teach their followers sound religious precepts rather than encouraging them to commit’reprehensible’ deeds.

“If we think by killing Deborah, people who are not of the same faith with us will stop insulting our prophet, then we are in delusion,” he concluded.
