Akintoye Moves To Stop Sunday Igboho’s Extradition To Nigeria

Professor Banji Akintoye, the leader of the umbrella body of Yoruba self-determination groups, Ilana Omo Oodua, has confirmed the arrest of liberation warrior Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho, in Benin Republic.

iexclusive News Nigeria reports that Akintoye stated that he received the information on Monday night and that plans are already in place to provide him with dependable legal assistance in order to prevent his extradition to Nigeria.

Akintoye stated that the plans are being developed in collaboration with other Yoruba patriots who are now available.

In a statement personally signed by him, Akintoye urged the Yoruba people in Nigeria and worldwide to come out and ensure that their ancestral country is not conquered by intruders.

He claimed that some individuals are attempting to silence or even kill Sunday Igboho because he stepped up to defend his kinsmen, women, and children who are being massacred and raped in their ancestral territory.

“Last night, I received disturbing news that Chief Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Igboho, had been arrested at the Cotonou Airport.

“Fortunately, the Benin Republic is a law-abiding country where the authorities responsibly uphold the rule of law. We have retained the services of a prominent and well-respected lawyer on whom we can rely with confidence.

What the situation now requires is for the Yoruba nation, both at home and in the Diaspora, to stand firm and decide that neither Sunday Igboho nor any other Yoruba person will be subjected to inhuman or dehumanizing treatment of any kind in the future.

“By the grace of God, the Yoruba nation is a very strong nation. We must stand now to demonstrate our strength.

“For starters, we must all work together to ensure that Sunday Ighoho regains his freedom so that he can move and operate freely. We all know he hasn’t done anything wrong.

“We also know that, in order to defend his people who are being brutalized, he has joined hands with many of his compatriots to take the legally-appropriate action of seeking the intervention of the International Criminal Court,” Akintoye stated.
