The Internet Archive: Preserving The Past For The Future

The Internet Archive is a digital library that archives and preserves the World Wide Web. Founded in 1996 by Brewster Kahle, a free information advocate, the Internet Archive’s mission is to provide Universal Access to All Knowledge.

Internet Archive aims to achieve this by building a digital library of Internet sites and other cultural artifacts in digital form and providing free access to researchers, historians, scholars, people with print disabilities, and the general public. The archived content first became available to the general public in 2001 when it developed the Wayback Machine

What is Wayback Machine?

One of the most well-known services provided by the Internet Archive is the Wayback Machine, Launched in 2001.

The Wayback Machine is a digital archive of the World Wide Web that allows users to go “back in time” and see how websites looked in the past. The bulk of its data is collected automatically by its web crawlers, which work to preserve as much of the public web as possible.

How To Use Wayback Machine

To use the Wayback Machine, users can visit the website and enter a URL into the search box. They can then select a date range and begin surfing on an archived version of the Web. The Wayback Machine allows users to see how a website looked at different points in time.
