Iexclusive News Nigeria reports that Ecobank Nigeria is joining the rest of the country in celebrating Nigerians in diaspora by offering free transactions on its proprietary money transfer app, Rapidtransfer, in honor of National Diaspora Day this year.

 

The Federal Government has designated July 25 as National Diaspora Day each year to honor the contributions of Nigerians residing abroad to the country’s growth.

 

In a commemorative message, Patrick Akinwuntan, Managing Director of Ecobank Nigeria, remarked that Nigerians in the diaspora contribute considerably to the country’s socio-economic growth. Mr. Akinwuntan praised the Federal Government’s decision to designate a special day each year as National Diaspora Day, noting that the government’s recent launch of the National Diaspora Policy (NDP) would help to promote and harness the resources and capacity of Nigerians living abroad for national development.

 

“As a pan-African institution positioned to foster the economic growth and integration of our continent, we are particularly pleased to work closely with NiDCOM, ably led by the Chairman/CEO, Hon Abike Dabiri-Erewa towards the engagement of Nigerians in the diaspora on policies, projects and other initiatives geared at developing the nation. From our constant engagement with Nigerians in the Diaspora, we understand their peculiar needs and have created tailor-made solutions to serve them effectively.” He noted further that Ecobank has partnered NiDCOM on webinars, diaspora quarterly lecture series and will continue to seek other collaboration opportunities to deepen engagement with the diaspora community.

 

Also speaking, Korede Demola-Adeniyi, Head, Consumer Banking, Ecobank Nigeria, announced that from July 1 to October 31, 2021, Ecobank will charge no fees on all Rapidtransfer transactions, allowing Nigerians living abroad to send money to their loved ones without breaking the bank. According to her, the bank’s decision to eliminate fees demonstrates the bank’s commitment to assisting Nigerians living overseas remit money home without incurring additional fees, particularly during these period of global economic slump.

 

Rapidtransfer is Ecobank’s own money transfer service that allows consumers to transmit money across borders quickly and cheaply. Customers of both Ecobank and non-Ecobank can utilize the Rapidtransfer app. Remittances can be received in cash at any Ecobank branch or immediately into the recipient’s account. Beneficiaries who wish to receive payments into an account but do not have a domiciliary account can open an Ecobank foreign currency account in Euro, GBP, or USD and take advantage of all the perks that come with it.

 

In addition, as part of the Central Bank of Nigeria’s ongoing Naira for Dollar initiative, N5 is paid for every dollar received in cash or via direct deposit.
