How Igboho and his wife was arrested in Benin Republic – Lawyer 

Hours after the arrest of a Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, alias Igboho, reactions have begun to come in.

iexclusive News Nigeria reports that Sunday Igboho’s lawyer, Yomi Alliyu (SAN), said Tuesday that his client was detained along with his wife in Benin Republic by the International Criminal Police Organization.

In his statement, Alliyu urged the governments of Germany and Benin Republic to prevent Igboho from being extradited to Nigeria.

“I call on you to wake up and put a stop to the impunity of the Nigerian government by refusing any application for extradition of our Client, who already has an application before the International Criminal Court that has been legally acknowledged,” he said.

According to reports, Sunday Igboho and his wife were apprehended in Benin Republic as they prepared to proceed to Germany.

Emeritus Professor Banji Akintoye, a renowned Historian and Leader of the Umbrella Body of Yoruba Self-Determination Groups, confirmed Sunday Igboho’s arrest on Tuesday, adding that he and other Yoruba patriots are currently working to provide assistance for him in order to prevent his extradition into Nigeria.

In a statement issued by his Communications Manager, Mr. Maxwell Adeleye, Akintoye urged the Yoruba people in Nigeria and worldwide to ensure that their ancestral territory is not conquered by intruders.

“I received worrisome information last night that Chief Sunday Adeyemo, lovingly known as Igboho, had been arrested at the Cotonou Airport,” the statement continues.

“I and other Yoruba Patriots who are instantly available are presently trying to provide the help required to guarantee that nobody can do anything illegal or primitive to him and to prevent him from being deported into Nigeria, which is very likely.

“Fortunately, Benin Republic is reliably a land of law where the authorities responsibly obey the law. We have secured the services of a leading and highly respected lawyer whom we can confidently rely on….”
