President Muhammadu Buhari Wants More Nigerians To Work In Agriculture
Iexclusive News Nigeria reports that President Muhammadu Buhari has stated that he wants more Nigerians to engage in farming in order to boost the country’s food output. Only 2.5 percent of the country’s arable land is cultivated.

On Tuesday, July 20, 2021, the president informed journalists that he was startled to see that only 2.5 percent of the country’s fertile land is cultivated.
The 78-year-old administration has made economic diversification one of its top priorities for the past six years, with mixed success.
Agriculture is the backbone of that diversification strategy, he stated on Monday, July 19, because it is a more stable pillar of the Nigerian economy and must be utilized to provide a boost for the country.
Insecurity, according to the president, has had a negative impact on land cultivation, with many rural farming villages decimated by violence.
On Tuesday, he said that he has directed security forces to collaborate with communities to make farming more secure.
Nigeria’s agricultural industry is still dominated by subsistence farming, which is unappealing to the country’s youth.
Despite unemployment reaching a new high of 33.3 percent last year, the president’s pro-farming rhetoric has failed to gain traction.
