BREAKING: Ibiyemi Bello Emerges LASU VC

Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello has been named the Lagos State University’s 9th substantive Vice-Chancellor (LASU).

iexclusive News Nigeria reports that after repeated setbacks in the process of appointing the successor to Professor Lanre Fagbohun, the former vice-chancellor, whose term ended nine months ago, the new vice-chancellor was named.

This online news outlet recalls that Sanwo-Olu dismissed the institution’s governing council and reformed the VC selection panel amid the turmoil.

Olatunji-Bello was appointed on a proposal by the Joint Committee of Council and Senate of LASU in compliance with the LASU Law, Cap 169 Vol 7, Laws of Lagos State, according to Gbenga Omotoso, Commissioner for Information.

“After ascending through the ranks at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, Idi-Araba, from Assistant Lecturer (1988 to 1991) to Associate Professor in 2005, she started responsibility as the First Professor of Physiology in LASU College of Medicine on the 2nd of October 2007.”

“As a nominee of the National Universities Commission, Mrs. Olatunji-Bello attended Course 34 of the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, the Federal Government’s highest policy advising body, in 2012.

iexclusive News Nigeria reports that Mrs. Olatunji-Bello is a member of the National Institute (mni) and has received a Fellowship Award from the Physiological Society of Nigeria, as well as being named a Fellow of the Environmental Toxicology and Pollution Mitigation in 2019.”

Olatunji-Bello was suggested for the position alongside two other candidates, Professor Omotayo R. Awofolu and Professor Senapon Bakare, in that order.
