Buhari Off To Ethiopia For Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s Inauguration

 

President Muhammadu Buhari will go to Ethiopia for Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s second five-year term.

 

iexclusive News Nigeria reports that the president’s spokesperson, Femi Adesina, said in a statement on Saturday that the president will leave Abuja on Sunday ahead of the event on Monday.

 

Buhari is slated to deliver a goodwill message at the inaugural ceremony, which will be followed by a State Banquet in honor of visiting Heads of State and Government.

 

According to Adesina, Buhari would be accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, and Ambassador Ahmed Rufai Abubakar, Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA).

The President, he said, will return to Abuja on Tuesday.

 

Following Ethiopia’s ruling Prosperity Party’s parliamentary election victory on June 21, Prime Minister Ahmed was re-elected for a second term.

In a congratulatory message, Buhari had previously pledged Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed that Nigeria will continue to support Ethiopia’s unity and territorial well-being, as well as those of other African countries.

 

“On behalf of the Nigerian people, I send you and the people of Ethiopia our best wishes for your courage and commitment to the democratic process, and I urge you to continue with the good policies of your government that have endeared you to the people,” President Buhari said in his congratulatory message to the Prime Minister.
