Drama As El-Rufai Sacks Chief Of Staff, See Why

Governor El-Rufai has Sacked his Chief Of Staff for calling Lamido Sanusi ‘Former Emir of Kano’

iexclusive News Nigeria reports that the deposed emir had endangered Muhammad Sani Abdullahi’s position at the Kaduna Investment Summit last month when he addressed him as a former emir.

Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, El Rufai, and Muhammad Sani Abdullahi.

Weeks after addressing Lamido Sanusi as a “former Emir of Kano,” Governor Nasir El-Rufai has removed his chief of staff.

While speaking at the Kaduna Investment Summit in September, Muhammad Sani Abdullahi identified Mr Sanusi as a former emir.

Mr Sanusi, who was deposed by Abdulahi Ganduje in March 2019 after corruption charges, took issue with the designation, claiming he was not a former emir.

“I was listening to the chief of staff when… When Mr Sanusi grabbed the microphone during the ceremony, he stated, “I’ll call him former chief of staff…you’ll understand why I call you ‘former’ later.” “Don’t call me ‘former Emir’ next time.” There’s nothing else like it.”

Since Mr Sani Abdullahi’s removal from office, a video of the discussions has gotten a lot of attention on social media.

Mr. Sani Abdullahi, Mr. El-chief Rufai’s of staff since 2019, was fired on Monday during a cabinet reshuffle by Mr. El-Rufai.

Following that, he was assigned to the ministry of planning and budget, where he would serve as commissioner.

It was unclear whether Mr Sani Abdullahi’s dismissal as chief of staff was orchestrated by Mr Sanusi, who has remained politically influential and close to Mr El-Rufai.

On Tuesday afternoon, a request for comment from the governor’s spokeswoman was not immediately returned.
