1. President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday, jetted out of the country to Dubai for the EXPO 2020 holding in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Mr Femi Adesina, Presidential spokesman, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday.

2. No fewer than five officials of the Borno State government supervising a project have been abducted by the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP). The victims, who were supervising the construction of Chibok-Damboa road, were forcefully taken away on Wednesday.

3. Anxiety has gripped Nigerians following the reported detection of the new COVID-19 variant, Omicron, in the country. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) revealed, yesterday, that the variant was detected in the cause of its genomic surveillance for inbound international travelers arriving in the country at its National Reference Laboratory (NRL), Abuja.

4. Abuja division of the Federal High Court has dismissed a suit seeking the disqualification of former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Charles Soludo as the Anambra governor-elect on the platform of All Grand Progressive Alliance (APGA). Justice Taiwo Taiwo, in a judgment delivered, yesterday, in a suit filed by two voters in Anambra, Adindu Valentine and Chukwuebuka Egwudike, described the suit as frivolous, irritating, baseless and lacking in merit.

5. The death toll from the boat mishap which occurred in Kano on Tuesday has hit 29. Twenty corpses, including those of pupils, were recovered on the day of the tragic incident while the Senior Fire Superintendent, Saminu Yusuf Abdullahi, confirmed yesterday that nine more corpses had been recovered.

6. The President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, has described travel ban placed on his country and other nations in Southern Africa as “arbitrary, discriminatory, unscientific and unproductive” in the long run. Ramaphosa said this on Wednesday when he was hosted by President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja during his visit to Nigeria.

7. Some civil servants who have no proof of COVID-19 vaccination and negative PCR tests are currently being denied access into the Federal Secretariat, Abuja. This followed the earlier announcement by the FG warning that civil servants who are yet to be vaccinated against the COVID-19 would not be allowed into public offices beginning from Dec 1.
