Why It’s ‘Historic’

The march was organized by the European Movement and London Mayor Sadiq Khan. Gained traction when Zelensky called on people all over the world to come to the streets earlier this week.

“With over 150,000 people in attendance. There can be no doubt that this is one of the greatest and most historic gestures of solidarity our country has ever seen,” a European Movement official stated.

After the anti-war marches in Iraq, Afghanistan, Vietnam, and the anti-Brexit marches. This would make the event the tenth most-attended demonstration in British history. The turnout was “overwhelming,” according to the organizers.

David Lammy, Labour’s shadow foreign secretary, was also there and led a chant of “stand with Ukraine.”

“We come here to give a message to Ukraine’s lovely people that we are with you in this struggle,” he stated.

Lammy also demanded a stop to “filthy Russian money” that has “polluted” the British economy.

We Stand With Ukraine’

“It’s been distressing to see this unwarranted and horrific attack against the Ukrainian people unfold over the last few weeks,” Khan added.”

“Londoners have already shown their readiness to help by donating money to charity and signing up to house refugees.”

“Today, we marched and stood together in Trafalgar Square to demonstrate our support for our Ukrainian neighbors and to demand an immediate halt to this horror.”

“It’s easy for peace opponents to say Putin doesn’t care about what happened in Trafalgar Square. But the world is watching,” Anna Bird, CEO of the European Movement, remarked.

Ukraine’s people are listening and hoping for a better future. They require assurance that we are on their side.

“I am completely certain of this: the only way to a peaceful future is for us to join with our European and global neighbors.”

“This historic march sent a message to the world that Ukraine stands with us and that we stand with them.” Today, and every day thereafter, until Ukraine triumphs.”
