BREAKING: Flights Disrupted As Protesting Aviation Workers Shut Down Lagos Airport 

Tuesday’s early morning flights were canceled as aviation workers closed down Lagos Terminal 2 at the Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA2).

The  B-Courtney Aviation Services Limited, which runs the airport terminal, “unprovokedly terminated” the employment of 34 aviation workers.

Members of the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN) blocked the entrance gates of the MMA2 terminal to protest this (BASL).

Airlines operating inside the airport terminal, notably Ibom Air and Air Peace, were obliged to halt flight operations as a result of the circumstance.

In a notice to customers, Ibom Air stated that the union’s action will significantly affect its flights booked into and out of Lagos today.

“We greatly regret the impact of this unexpected action on your day’s plans as we urge you to kindly stay close to all our communication channels for subsequent updates,” the airline said.

The ATSSSAN Branch Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, and Women Leader were listed as those who would be affected by the disengagement in a strike notice.

And they were said to demand “the payment of terminal benefits to staff members who exited the service of the company lawfully in accordance with the signed Conditions of Service.”

The union claimed that BASL Management acted while the parties were negotiating the aforementioned payment and that there was no evidence that the negotiations had irretrievably broken down.

It believed that the termination victimized its members and excos because they were only performing their constitutionally required tasks.

“In light of the above. ATSSSAN has declared industrial action against BASL and calls on all branches nationwide, as well as all professional associatioaffiliatedted to ATSSSAN to withdraw services to all airlines operating into and out of the MMA2 Lagos immediately without fall,” said ATSSSAN Principal Deputy General Secretary, Frances Akinjole.

As of the time of publication, the terminal’s owners had not released a statement regarding the situation.
