9 Children Injured in Mysterious Explosion in Kaduna

KADUNA, (iexclusivenews) – A tragic incident occurred on Saturday afternoon in Kidandan, a community in Giwa Council Area of Kaduna State, North-West Nigeria.

A mysterious explosion injured nine children who were playing with an unknown object they found in the bush.

This comes just four days after another deadly explosion in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital, that claimed five lives and injured over 70 people.

Police Confirm the Incident and Express Regret

The Kaduna State Police Command has confirmed the incident and said that all the injured children have been taken to hospital for medical treatment.

The command’s spokesperson, Mansir Hassan, who spoke to TheCable, described the incident as unfortunate.

Hassan said;

“We received the information through the DPO (divisional police officer). You know that area is the operational area where the security agencies are conducting a lot of operations in the bush.”

He lamented that the children picked an object and took it to their school and in the process of dismantling, it exploded.

“So, the young boys went to the bush and they saw an object and took it to the school. When they got to the school since they didn’t know what the object was, they decided to open it to see. So, in the process, it exploded and left about nine of them injured.”

EOD Team Investigates the Cause of the Explosion

The affected children are currently receiving treatment at a medical facility, the PPRO said.

He also said that the command’s EOD (explosive ordnance disposal) team has visited the scene to “ascertain the situation and find out whether it was a bomb or what exploded.”

The incident has raised questions about the security situation in the region and the safety of the residents, especially the children.

The police have urged the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious objects or activities to the authorities.
