Jury Slams Trump With $83M Fine In Defamation Lawsuit

iexclusivenews – E. Jean Carroll, a writer who accused former President Donald Trump of raping her in the 1990s, has won a huge victory in her defamation lawsuit against him.

A jury decided on Friday that Trump must pay her $83.3 million in damages for tarnishing her reputation and causing her emotional distress by calling her a liar and a fraud.

This is in addition to the $5 million that Trump was already ordered to pay her in a previous trial.

Trump Appeals The Verdict And Continues To Attack Carroll

Trump is not giving up without a fight. He has appealed the verdict in the first trial and is likely to do the same in the second one.

He has also not stopped his online campaign of harassment and intimidation against Carroll, posting about her more than 40 times on Monday alone.

It is unclear if Carroll will file another defamation claim against Trump for his recent posts, or if she will be satisfied with the jury’s decision.

Trump’s Financial Situation And Legal Troubles

According to Forbes, Trump’s net worth was $2.6 billion as of October, with $426 million in cash and liquid assets.

However, it is not known if he will use his own money to pay Carroll, or if he will rely on his Save America PAC, which has been covering most of his legal expenses.

The PAC reported having only $3.7 million in cash on hand as of June 30.

This may not be the only large payment that Trump will have to make this month.

He is also facing a civil fraud case brought by New York Attorney General Letitia James, who accused him and his company of inflating and deflating the value of their assets for personal benefit.

The case went to trial in October, and Judge Arthur Engoron is expected to issue his verdict by the end of January.

James is seeking about $370 million plus interest from Trump and his co-defendants, with most of it to be paid by Trump and his entities.

Carroll’s Allegations And Trump’s Denials

Carroll first came forward with her allegations against Trump in 2019, in an article published by New York Magazine.

She claimed that Trump raped her in a dressing room at Bergdorf Goodman, a luxury department store, in the mid-1990s.

Carroll also published a photo of herself and Trump at a party around that time, as evidence that they knew each other.

Trump responded by denying her allegations and attacking her credibility.

He said that he never met her, that she was not his type, that she was making up the story for publicity, and that she was working with the Democratic Party to smear him.

He also suggested that she should face a DNA test to prove her claims.

Carroll sued him for defamation in November 2019, saying that his statements harmed her reputation, honor, and dignity, and caused her pain and suffering at the hands of her rapist.

The case was delayed for years, as Trump tried to dismiss it on the grounds that he was immune from lawsuits as president.

He also refused to provide a DNA sample, which Carroll requested to match with the dress she wore on the day of the alleged assault.

Carroll is one of about two dozen women who have accused Trump of sexual assault or misconduct, but she is the only one who has taken him to court.

Another accuser, Summer Zervos, a former contestant on Trump’s reality show “The Apprentice”, also sued him for defamation, but dropped the case in Nov. 2021. Zervos’ lawyer said that she still believed in her allegations, but did not want to continue the litigation.

Trump has denied all the accusations against him, and has claimed that he did not know or assault Carroll.

However, U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan, who oversaw the latest trial, ruled that Trump could not make those claims in court, because he

had already been found liable for defamation.
