Abaribe: Why I will Stand Surety For Nnamdi Kanu Again

Enyinaya Abaribe, Senate Minority Leader has stated that he would stand surety again for Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader Nnamdi Kanu.

iexclusive News Nigeria reports that this was revealed by Abaribe during an interview on TVC’s Journalists Hangout on Wednesday.

The legislator said that he stood surety for Kanu since it was a court-mandated stipulation.

According to Abaribe, the court-mandated that one of the sureties be a Senator, and he had to provide himself as Chairman of the Southeast Senators Caucus at the time.

When asked if Senator Ike Ekweremadu, the new Chairman of the Southeast Caucus, would agree to serve as a surety for Kanu if the need arose, Abaribe said he would not know.

“There is a difference between skipping bail and fleeing for your life,” Abaribe explained.

I returned to court and testified that the last persons saw with him were troops of the Nigerian army who were storming his father’s house, based on the premise of “last seen.”

“Ultimately, the court determined that she was revoking bail and issued an arrest warrant, absolving us of the obligation of supplying him.”

Abaribe was then questioned if he would provide surety for Kanu again if the IPOB leader was granted bail.

“If the circumstances are the same, why not?” he answered.

“The first time, the judge stated that a Senator was required as one of his sureties.

So, if a judge decides they need a Senator again, I don’t see why I shouldn’t.
