Abuja's Chinese Supermarket Sealed Amidst Discrimination Claims

ABUJA, (iexclusivenews) – In a decisive move, the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has sealed off a prominent Chinese supermarket located within the China General Chamber of Commerce in Abuja.

The action comes after a surge of public outcry over alleged discriminatory policies that restricted access to Chinese nationals only.

On-Site Investigation Leads to Closure

FCCPC officials conducted an on-site investigation at the supermarket on Monday, following reports that Nigerian patrons were being denied entry.

The commission’s swift response included the interrogation of Nigerian employees, which ultimately led to the establishment’s closure.

Public Outcry Over Exclusionary Policy

The controversy ignited when Nigerians voiced their indignation on social media last Sunday, regarding the supermarket’s policy of allowing only Chinese individuals to shop.

The situation escalated when Nigerian citizens were barred from entering by security personnel, sparking widespread calls for action.

Official Confirmation of Restricted Access

Shaibu Sanusi, the facility manager, confirmed that while Nigerians residing within the complex have shopping privileges, those from outside are not permitted.

This revelation has intensified the scrutiny faced by the supermarket.

Ongoing Investigation and Speculations

As the supermarket remains sealed, there are speculations that individuals may be concealing themselves inside the premises, possibly to evade the FCCPC’s ongoing investigation.

The commission is determined to uphold consumer rights and prevent any form of discrimination.
