AFCON 2021: Panic in Cameroon As Separatists Bomb Host City Limbe

AFCON 2021- Separatist fighters in Cameroon’s Anglophone region detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) in Limbe, which will host African Cup Nations Group F matches (AFCON).

iexclusive News Nigeria reports that according to local police, no one was injured in the explosion that occurred early Thursday morning in the city’s Half Mile neighborhood.

Separatist fighters who have vowed to disrupt AFCON in the city claimed responsibility for the blast on social media, saying it was “a warning sign of what we will happen during AFCON.”

Separatist leaders have stated that they do not want AFCON 2021 matches to be held in a region that is “at war.”

Cameroon’s army has sent more ammunition and troops to the region.

Routine day and night patrols are carried out by the troops.

Separatists have been clashing with government forces in Anglophone regions of the Southwest and Northwest since 2017, where they want to establish an independent nation called “Ambazonia.”

The African Football Confederation (AFCON) will officially begin on Sunday in Yaounde and will last four weeks.
