BREAKING:  Raucous  Session In House Of Reps Over PIB

Thursday’s House of Representatives debate was contentious over the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB).

iexclusive News Nigeria reports that controversy began when some legislators objected to an apparent decrease in the authorized proportion going to host towns.

The House had already approved a 5% allocation for host communities in the PIB, while the Senate approved a 3% allocation.

However, a PDP legislator, Chinyere Igwe, made a commotion by screaming at the top of his lungs in protest of the purported decrease of the proportion for host communities from 5% to 3% after the document’s harmonization by the Senate and House of Representatives conference committees.

“It must be 5%,” he shouted before Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila’s arrival.

Even after the Speaker entered the chamber and took his place, the raucous session continued, prompting the Speaker to request an executive session of the House.

The legislature is presently in executive session.
