The foundation’s president, Richard Ezaqui, said that it “completely recognized the exceptional role Muhammad-Bande performed and showed throughout his term in mobilizing the globe to fight the COVID-19 threat.”
“Your sterling achievement in effectively guiding the world through those trying times had a major part in your excellency being selected for this prestigious International Award,” he added.

Bande’s Diplomats at the United Nations voiced worry that the General Assembly would be unable to perform its mandate if COVID-19 spread and nations began imposing lockdowns.
They lauded Muhammad-Bande for ensuring business continuity while limiting the spread of COVID-19 via innovative methods.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres singled out the Nigerian ambassador as the UN General Assembly’s “miracle” for weathering the COVID-19 tempest.
When he accepted the prize, Muhammad-Bande expressed gratitude to the foundation’s leadership for the honor and for conferring it on him.

He said that there was a link between the UN’s activity and the activities of the foundation to assist mankind.
“Peace and security are the fundamental and most critical components, and when there are difficulties, peace and security take precedence.
“We must value the job that police officers and other law enforcement organizations do on our behalf,” he added.
While reading Muhammad-citation, Bande’s Dr. Kazeem Bello, President, Nigerians in Diaspora Organization (NIDO), New Jersey, said that it was on record that he served as President of the United Nations General Assembly at a difficult time.
Bello, the foundation’s Adviser on Financial and Strategic Planning, said that Muhammad-Bande presided over the UN General Assembly during one of the most trying years since the organization’s inception.
“Muhammad-Bande performed well at a period of worldwide adversity for the whole human species.
“He inspired the whole world’s leaders to unite, work cooperatively, and speak with a single voice in the fight against the devouring COVID-19,” Bello added.
The Mayor of New York, Bill de Blasio, attended the event and said that members of the foundation were the first responders to the epidemic and praised them for their assistance.
“During the epidemic, this organization distributed Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and provided scholarships to the children of officers who perished in the pandemic,” he said.
According to this online news outlet, Muhammad-Bande was joined by his wife, Amb. Lot Egopija, Nigeria’s Consul-General in New York, Amb. George Edokpa, Nigeria’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, and Mrs. Catherine Udida, a Minister at Nigeria’s permanent mission.
