Nigerian Tourism Minister Lola Ade-John Poisoned in Abuja Battles for Life 

ABUJA, (iexclusivenews) – Lola Ade-John, the Nigerian minister of tourism, culture and national orientation, is fighting for her life at a hospital in Abuja after being poisoned by unknown assailants.

The 60-year-old minister was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Jabi, on Monday, September 25, 2023, after she started showing signs of severe poisoning, such as vomiting, abdominal pain and difficulty breathing.

The incident has shocked the nation and raised questions about the security and safety of public officials in Nigeria.

The police and the State Security Service have not yet confirmed if they are investigating the matter or if they have any suspects in custody.

The motive behind the poisoning is also unclear, as Ms Ade-John is widely regarded as one of the few technocrats and professionals in President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet.

A Distinguished Career

Ms Ade-John has a distinguished career in banking and technology. She was born in Lagos and studied economics at the University of Lagos.

She then moved to London, where she worked for several international banks, such as Barclays, HSBC and Standard Chartered.

Ms Ade-John also invested in several tech startups and became a mentor and advisor for young entrepreneurs.

She was appointed as a minister by President Tinubu in August 2023, as part of his efforts to bring fresh and innovative ideas to his government.

Ms Ade-John was tasked with revamping the tourism sector, which has been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic and insecurity in some parts of the country.

She was also responsible for promoting Nigeria’s rich and diverse culture and heritage to the world.

A Family Feud

Ms Ade-John’s poisoning has also sparked a family feud over her medical care.

According to sources close to her family, they are unhappy with the quality of treatment she is receiving at the FMC and want to move her to a private hospital with better facilities and equipment.

However, they are facing resistance from the permanent secretary of her ministry, Ngozi Onwudike.

Who insists that she should remain at the FMC because it is a public hospital and would not incur high costs for the government.

The family sources said that they are worried that Ms Ade-John’s condition is deteriorating and that she may not survive if she is not given adequate attention and care.

They said that they are trying to raise funds to transfer her to a private hospital, but they are facing difficulties due to the economic situation in the country.

A spokesperson for the FMC declined to comment on Ms Ade-John’s condition or the allegations of poor service delivery at the hospital.

He said that he was not authorized to speak to the media on such matters.
