Repentant’ Bandit Nabbed For Robbery In Katsina

Abdullahi Mai-Rafi, a “repentant” bandit accused of armed robbery, cattle rustling, and kidnapping, was paraded by the Nigerian Police Force’s Katsina command on Wednesday.

iexclusive News Nigeria reports that Abbas Haruna, 34, of Filin Polo Quarters, Katsina, and Usman Hassan, 50, of Ganuwa village, Charanchi Local Government Area, Katsina, were detained with Mai-Rafi of Kofar Marusa Lowcost, Katsina.

SP Gambo Isah, a spokeswoman for the Command, said Mai-Rafi was working on security issues with the office of the Special Assistant to the Governor.

On August 11, 2021, at Dammarke woodland, Ingawa Local Government Area, the trio allegedly attacked a herdsman, one Alhaji Gide Suleiman of Malumafashi Local Government Area, and rustled 20 cows valued at N7.5 million from him, according to Isah.

The defendants are also accused of stealing N40,000 from the victim as well as four mobile phones.

“They also searched them and stole N40,000 naira as well as four (4) GSM smartphones.

The same syndicate of Abdullahi Mai-Rafi and three (3) others then attacked the complainant on the same false claim on August 24, 2021 at around 0730 hours.

They tried to rob him of another twenty cows and a few sheep, but nemesis caught up with them when the Command picked them up and arrested them.

“During the course of the inquiry, suspects admitted to committing the crimes.

“The gang leader, Abdullahi Mai-Rafi, admitted conspiring with the others to sell all the cows at Dankama market in the state’s Kaita LGA.

“From their possessions, two cows and an amount of N440,000 were collected as evidence.
