AFCON 2022 : Cameroon vs Burkina Faso Result
AFCON 2022 – Cameroon came from behind to beat Burkina Faso 2-1 in the opening match of the Africa Cup of Nations finals in Yaounde, thanks to two spot kicks from captain Vincent Aboubakar.
Burkina Faso, who were missing coach Kamou Malo and six players who tested positive for COVID-19 in the lead-up to the game, gave away two clumsy penalties after Gustavo Sangare had silenced the home crowd of around 45,000 fans at the newly-built Olembe Stadium with the game’s first goal in AFCON 2022 opener.
Sangare finished with his left foot at the back post in the 24th minute to give Burkina Faso a surprise lead in Group A, but their captain Bertrand Traore and defender Issoufou Dayo both gave away penalties in quick succession.
Aboubakar, who was a member of Cameroon’s winning team at the 2017 Cup of Nations in neighboring Gabon, tucked both kicks away with ease.
