Cameroon vs Comoros: 6 People Died Over 40 Injured During AFCON 2021 Game
Cameroon vs Comoros–At least, 6 people have died in a stampede outside the Olembe Stadium in the central city of Yaounde, Cameroon.
The stampede happened during the Africa Cup of Nations host nation’s round of 16 game against Comoros on Monday as people struggled to gain access to the stadium.
The governor of the central region, Naseri Paul Biya, told reporters that there could be more casualties, and officials at a nearby hospital said over 40 people had been injured.
Because of Covid restrictions, the stadium, which has a capacity of 60,000, was not designed to accommodate 80% of the crowd.

Officials from the Cameroon vs Comoros match, on the other hand, were quoted as saying that 50,000 people were attempting to attend.
“Some of the injured are in desperate condition,” said Olinga Prudence, a local nurse at the Messassi hospital. “We will have to evacuate them to a specialized hospital.”
Despite the incident, Cameroon defeated Comoros 2-1 in the round of 16 match.
