iexclusivenews had reported earlier that a popular Nigerian gospel singer, who was known for the gospel song “Ekwueme“, Sister Osinachi Nwachukwu is dead. She died on Friday evening, April 8, 2022. 

This online news outlet understands that Osinachi Nwachukwu died on Friday evening, April 8, 2022, in a hospital located in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

The “Ekwueme” crooner passed on this evening in an Abuja hospital after battling an undisclosed ailment for the past few months.

Osinachi Nwachukwu was said to be diagnosed with a deadly ailment and has been bating it for some time now. 

A gospel musician, Frank Edwards blamed her husband for her death. Another gospel artiste, Asu Ekiye, called for the arrest of her husband. 

He said, “If what I hear about domestic abuse is anything to go by, then I hereby endorse the call for the arrest of the husband of Osinachi immediately for questioning.” 

A woman, who claimed to be her friend, Chidinma Ezego, alleged that the late Osinachi told her the husband made her children flog her. 

She said, “The husband has been beating and maltreating this woman, but she’s been dying in silence. Now, he kicked the woman on her chest and she’s been on life support for five days and finally died. Now, the man has been arrested and I pray he rots in jail.  Remember how he tied her up and asked the children to beat her up with cane. She told me this.”

Osinachi husband while speaking from police custody, said his late wife had been ill since November last year. He said he first took her to Federal Medical Center (FMC), later to Gwagwalada General hospital, and then to National hospital, where she finally died. He, however, failed to disclose the nature of her illness. 

At about 11a.m on Monday, April 11, 2021, Peter Nwachukwu was handcuffed and escorted into the police van stationed in front of the Lugbe police station in Abuja. 

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) said they were driving him to their house to provide evidence of the hospitals he claimed to have taken his deceased wife to for treatment.

News of the death of the singer broke over the weekend, with different accounts of the incident. 

While some persons claimed she died of throat cancer, others said she died as a result of domestic abuse by Peter Nwachukwu, her husband. 

In an interview with Vanguard, the deceased’s sibling reportedly opened up on the cause of the gifted singer’s death. 

“She did not die of cancer. The husband, Mr Peter Nwachukwu hit her with his leg on the chest. All this while, he has been beating her but my sister hides all that she was passing through from us,” Favour was quoted to have said. 

“Before now, we have told her to come out of the marriage, we told her that they are not divorcing and that it’s just a separation. But she felt that God is against divorce. 

“We told her that separation is not a sin but just for her to stay alive and take care of her children. She will always tell us to relax and that the man will change. So when the man kicked her in the chest, she fell down and he took her to the hospital but he did not even tell us.” 

She added that they did not know about the latest incident until a friend of the late singer informed her twin sister. 

“It was her friend who lives in Ebonyi state that called her twin sister because Osinachi has a twin sister, to ask, ‘did your Sister tell you that Peter hit her on the chest? the sister then told her no,” she said. 

“It was the hitting on the chest that killed her. My brother had to ask the doctor what killed her and the doctor said that there were clusters of blood clot on her chest. 

“Unfortunately, they did not tell the doctor that she was kicked in the chest because the doctor could have known what to do if he had an idea of what happened. Each time we talked to her, she will be pleading for peace and if we move to act, she will tell us no, that we should calm down.”
